Playing Catch Up With Bobby Long!

We caught up with our pal Bobby Long again when he recently played at one of regular New York venues, The Mercury Lounge, and we got to check out the soundcheck (always a treat) and learned that our boy will be moving Stateside but we are sworn not to tell where! He also is not allowed to 'fess up to what record label he has signed with but last summer, every label and their spinoffs sent an A&R guy to check Bobby out in a time when few artists are being signed (especially those of the acoustic variety). Bobby will no longer be 100 per cent acoustic as he has been setting up a band to play on the record (being recorded for the entire month of April) and will also be having several famous session players sit in. We think that this band might be going on tour with him as well come summer!
For the past two years, the 23-year-old "Man From Manchester" has been garnering attention and a growing following by having his song "Let Me Sign" performed by best mate Rob Pattinson on the soundtrack of Twilight, followed by Bobby putting his own music on the net (see and now every show he does seems to sell out! Just remember that you read about Bobby here first--and also in the pages of Teen Dream magazine! We love Bobby because he is super humble int he face of great acclaim--and the fact he has the flirtiest audience known to man. If you ever go and check out one of his shows, you will hear girls trying to pick him up between guitar cords (no joke) but he seems oblivious! Stay tuned to this website for more on the "electrification" of Bobby Long—we think his  record is really going to be a groundbreaker! And we would just love to hear that R-Pattz might be coming into the studio for a background vocal or two! (We honestly do not know anything about this yet, we are just speculating--we know that they jam together in private!)--Anne M. Raso

Later in the show, The Last Airbender's Nicola Peltz' magic "slimebending" got out of hand, Katy Perry, Steve Carell and Tina Fey were treated to surprise slimings and American Olympian Apolo Anton Ohno set a world record by shooting 60 yards across a football field, via the Kids' Choice Awards Slime Catapult, through the goal posts and into a vat of slime. In a special honor, The First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama accepted the first-ever Nickelodeon Big Help Award for inspiring families to be healthy and active through her recently launched Let's Move! initiative.

In a new special category this year, the Ultimate Dance Smackdown was awarded to Nickelodeon stars Noah Munck and Matt Shively as voted by viewers during the live telecast.
Nickelodeon stars and music group Big Time Rush introduced international superstar Rihanna who was joined onstage by a giant dancing robot as she rocked the house with a medley of her hits "Hard," "Rude Boy" and "Please Don't Stop the Music." Teen-pop sensation Justin Bieber escorted one lucky winner from Nickelodeon's "All Access Sweepstakes with Justin Bieber" contest to the awards this evening and had the audience singing along to his performance of "Baby," from his just-released My World 2.0 sophomore album.
The moves of the night went to Noah Munck (iCarly) and Matt Shively (True Jackson, VP) who won the live viewer vote during the telecast's Ultimate Dance Smackdown competition. Three teams of Nickelodeon stars were in the running—each with a different style of dancing. Part Two of Exclusive Interview: Miley Cyrus Talks About The Last Song!

Images: Courtesy of Disney Films
MILEY CYRUS stars in the hit Disney Channel series “Hannah Montana,” which is currently in its fourth season. She also starred in the feature film “Hannah Montana: The Movie,” which topped the box office its opening weekend, was the voice of Penny in “Bolt,” and broke box-office records with her 3D film “Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour.” Cyrus is a multiplatinum recording artist and is the youngest-ever recording artist with four number-one albums in less than three years. She recently released “The Time of our Lives,” which features the number-one hit, “Party in the USA.” She is also the best-selling author of “Miles to Go,” her first book that shares her inspiring story, which spans from her Southern roots in Tennessee to the excitement of her record-setting triumphs in television, music and film.

Miley currently stars as Ronnie in “THE LAST SONG,” based on Nicholas Sparks’ latest novel. The film opens in theaters March 31, 2010.

Q:             You had to learn to play the piano for this role. Is that something you’ll stick with?
MC:            I'm definitely going to stick with the piano!  I picked it up really fast, which I guess is from being able to play the guitar and being so involved in music. I really enjoyed learning! Liam had to learn how to scuba dive for this movie. It’s like learning piano -- so many people wish they could learn, but we get to do it as part of a job. We’re lucky!

Q:             Ronnie has incredible talent but she throws it away. How were you able to bring that to life in the movie?
MC:             For me personally, you know I love singing, I love music, I love just entertaining in general, but there are times when the pressure and the stress of it all makes me want to give it up. But how sad it makes my heart to think about that. If I gave it up, look at all the things that I’d be throwing away.  I know personally what she gave up, which was my inspiration. It makes me sad to think that someone with the talent that Ronnie has would do that because I know living without music in my life would be like having no air to breathe.  I think for Ronnie it's the same thing. She loves music but she's giving it up and trying to prove a point to her dad. But really she's just cheating herself.

Q:            Did you contribute to the film musically?
MC:             “When I Look at You” was originally going to go on my next record, which I was working on while I was filming in Savannah. But when we realized it describes this entire movie, we had a composer come in and make a piano piece for me to be able to play. It’s in the movie when Ronnie reveals to Will that she plays the piano. It was perfect for that scene because it is a love song, but it's also about God, about family, about love—it's kind of what this movie is all about.
Q:            How would you describe the relationship between your character and Will Blakelee?
MC:            Ronnie and Will are from two very different backgrounds and I did have an inspiration for this because I felt like I've been in that position a couple of times.  She's a little more edgy, doesn't have a lot of money, very independent, takes care of herself, but he's very wealthy and very much taken care of by his parents. He’s independent in a way, he has a great job and he does work hard.  But he definitely has it a little easier on the surface, at least that's what she thinks. But it turns out that his life has been just as crazy as hers.

Q:            What was it like working with Liam Helmsworth?
MC:            Liam is so much fun to work with! The crazy thing is he's such a huge star in Australia, and so to help introduce him to our side of world was really cool. I know how that feels because I travel all over the world on tour, and I’m more well known here than I am in some of the places I’ve visited.  So I totally know where he's coming from.  He's from Australia and I'm from the South, but this movie is something new for both of us.  This is kind of his breakout moment in the States, and this is my breakout moment away from Hannah Montana.
Q:            Is it true that Nicholas Sparks wrote this with you in mind?
MC:            Yes, that’s one thing that's really different about this movie that isn't like any of Nicholas Sparks' other movies. You know, usually the book would come out first and then they'll decide to make a movie.  Here they decided to make the movie and then he wrote the book, so that's kind of cool.  Since he had me in mind, it’s clear to me that he worked some my mannerisms and my personality into the character of Ronnie.

Q:             How can you turn down a role written for you?
MC:            It wasn't that he wrote this script specifically for me, but I think he pictured me in his mind as he was writing. And it turned out once I got the script, I was very interested in it, and the pieces just fell into place against all odds.  I had a very crazy touring schedule and I was working on the show, wondering how I was going to fit this in. But finally we just decided we’ll make it work because I think God really had this in mind for me.

Q:            What’s it like working with Nicholas Sparks?
MC:            Working with Nick is so cool because I think everything that Nicholas Sparks has done has really impacted people's lives.  I mean, I love “The Notebook” and also “A Walk to Remember.” His work has great, positive messages. To me, the best thing is that kids love it but it's also mature enough to appeal to adults. It’s unusual to find that kind of balance.

Our Exclusive Interview! “TAKE TEN” WITH VICTORIA JUSTICE!

images: Courtesy of Nickelodeon

By Anne M. Raso

We  recently got to put 10 nosy questions by Victoria Justice who stars on the new Nickelodeon series, Victorious, which premieres on Saturday, March 27, at 9:30 p.m. (ET/PT). There have been 20 episodes shot for the first season and it, follows Tori Vega (Victoria Justice) as she unexpectedly finds herself navigating life at an elite performing arts high school.  Featuring a fabulous team of talented teens who act, sing, dance and perform to original music, Victorious is a co-production with Sony Music and is created and executive produced by prolific kids’ producer Dan Schneider ( best kwn for iCarly, Zoey 101, Drake & Josh, The Amanda Show). We really got the 411 on this future superstar—everything from her personal goals to what legendary actress she admires the most!

1. What are your goals as both a person and performer?

My goals as a person would have to be, to be the best person I can be.  I’m growing personally every day.  I’ve become more aware of the decisions I make and how they will affect me and other people.  My goal is to live my life to the fullest and to never stop learning. To always be myself in every situation, and if I ever find myself being fake, to snap out of it immediately.

My goals as a performer are to always work my hardest and give everything 120%.  I always want to keep learning from great people around me and just to keep growing as an actor. I love comedy, but I also love drama.  I would love to find a script that I liked with a great role for me and do a movie soon.

We’re in the middle of production right now on my new series, but when we wrap in April, I would also like to work more on my music. I went to a musical theater school when I was younger, so I’ve been singing for a while.  I want to focus more on writing songs and getting much better at piano and guitar.
2. Have you ever lost a pet? How did you cope with it?

No, I’ve never had a pet until recently.  My sister and I both got a puppy for Christmas in 2008.  We’re so in love with them.  They’ve become members of our family.  Losing them is too awful to even think about.
3. What real person living or dead do you feel you are best suited to play in a biopic?

I would love to play Audrey Hepburn. She’s was so talented, beautiful, and classy. She’ll always be a legend.
4. What is the best way for a girl interested in modeling to "go professional" and what is a good age to start?

I started modeling when I was eight years old.  Looking back, it was an amazing experience.  It’s easier to break into the business as a child, because they don’t have the height requirements that you need for adult modeling.  It also gives you great experience in front of a camera.

To get started you should have your mom take some photos of you, (head shots and full length body shots), and then send it to a few good agencies.  You should never have to pay a lot of money to anyone.  If the agencies like your look, they will contact you.  If they take you on as a model, they will know plenty of photographers to send you to, to help you get test shots and build your book to get you started that shouldn’t cost you anything at all.
 5. What cast members are you closest to and why? Do you have celebrity friends?

I’m very close to Avan Jogia.  We met on the set of “Spectacular” in Vancouver and he’s been one of my best friends ever since.  We share the same sense of humor, we both love indie films, sharing new music and just doing absolutely nothing together and still having so much fun.  We’re very similar.  Our moms have become very close friends as well.  We’re pretty much like family.

As far as celebrity friends, I’m very close to Dylan and Cole Sprouse.  We met when I was 11 years old and they were 12 on an episode of “The Suite Life”.  We then became very close while filming a movie together two years ago called, “The Kings Of Appletown.”  I was the only girl, there were 6 boys.  We went dirt bike riding, paint balling and go-kart racing.  We had so much fun!  I’m also very good friends with Josh Hutcherson, and all the teens on Nickelodeon as well.  I also have very close friends that aren’t in the business that I see when I’m not filming.

Part 2 coming soon...
