FLYING HIGH WITH FREDDIE HIGHMORE! F

(Photo Credits): Courtesy of Summit Entertainment

Friend and colleague Anne M. Raso has filed this exclusive interview with Brit Packer Freddie Highmore, one of our favorite new actors:

I was lucky enough to get an exclusive phone interview with Freddie Highmore regarding his role voicing Astro Boy, the much-anticipated animated film about the famed superhero of the same name due out in the States on October 23. But it is very possible that no country awaits the film more than Japan—who has the famous Astro Boy “subway” stop tribute in Kyoto. (Now, why can’t New York—my hometown--have creative subway creations like that?)

The last and only other time I talked to Freddie was when he did a press junket for August Rush, the overlooked romantic musical flick he did with sexy Jonathan Rhys-Myers a couple of years ago—he was sweet and well-mannered then, and is even more so now. He is quite the young, polite, polished young English gent—we need more actors like that shipped over here to the rowdy shores “across the pond”! Anyway, we are grateful that Freddie gave his inside views of playing Astro Boy to us and we will share them now. When I went to call Freddie at his hotel, the movie company publicist had already checked him out—and she asked me to check him back in. I had a good laugh because I never helped a movie star check into the Beverly Hills Four Seasons (or any other hotel for that matter). Freddie got a chuckle out of it, too—he didn’t even know he had been checked out of his hotel room that day!
Publicist: Hello.
Q: Yes.
Publicist: Hi Anne!
Q: OK, they reinstated him for one o’clock. They did claim you guys checked out again so you are back checked in! (Laughs.)
Publicist: (Laughs.) We’re back.
Q: I told the front desk to stop telling the journalists that Freddie checked out. (Laughs.)
Publicist: (Laughs.) Well, you’re the last one, so no worries, alright. So here’s Freddie.
Q: OK, thanks!
Freddie: Howdy!
Q: Hi, How are you?
Freddie: Very good, how are you? You finally got through!
Q: Yes, it was very funny. I never had to tell a front desk that a star checked back in! (Laughs.) Anyway, so I was one of the journalists who interviewed you for August Rush and I loved that movie so it’s a pleasure to get to speak to you again. So, now, this movie Astro boy is like a real legend in Japan and the director showed us some advanced footage about two months ago in New York…and I was wondering how much of the film you have gotten o see yourself and what you think of it.
Freddie: Two days ago I got to see the film pretty much finished minus some of the music. I think it’s fantastic. Obviously, when you are doing an animation (film), you don’t get to see as much of what’s going on as well you do a normal picture but…I was really, really happy with the result and quite pleasantly surprised because there is so much more than I thought would be in there. I mean, obviously, it is going to be action based and there is Astro Boy going to save the world but there are a lot more emotional and deeper levels than I thought and a lot of it is really funny. I think that it does definitely have something for everyone; it’s not just for kids. There’s, you know, if the parents go along they are going to have as good a time as the kids will. There are some jokes just in there for adults—I think it is really good.
Q: I saw a little (of the film). The time the director (David Bowers) spoke in New York, he showed this kind of history of Astro Boy (on a screen behind him in a NYC screening room). Apparently, it has been a kind of TV cartoon and some sort of movie before. Did they use old storylines from any of the old Astro Boys?
Freddie: I’m not sure—I haven’t seen it. I think there was one here in the 60s—a TV program here in America but I never got to see it in the 60s. (Giggles).
Q: No, what I am saying is did they use any of the old storylines, though?
Freddie: I am not sure. I think it (the movie) is definitely based on the original comics. There are so many different storylines that we couldn’t use them all. We had to almost take what’s best about Astro Boy and put all of that into one storyline. So we took a bit from here and a bit from there to make our own (storyline), yeah…to try and show everyone everything we could about Astro Boy in just an hour and a half, two hours, whatever the film is. I think it is always tricky when you have got something that is so well-known, especially in Japan. I remember when I first went to Japan. There were Astro Boy stores and Astro Boys murals—his image is everywhere. He is Japan’s Mickey Mouse.
Q: Right.
Freddie: I just wanted to bring that excitement to the world. I do think we have.  I think we have managed to give an insight into Astro Boy and show as much of him as we can whilst at the same time bringing him more up-to-date, you know, and people expect so much more from us in terms of animation standards now than back in the 1960s. So I think we have modernized him a little bit whilst keeping with his original character.

ASHLEY GREENE ON SATURDAY NIGHT MAGAZINE COVER

We're so happy for Ashley Greene, who just shot her first magazine cover for Saturday Night Magazine. The Twilight Saga: New Moon actress reveals in an interview that she originally auditioned for the role of Bella, but was told she wasn't right for the part.

After seeing her memorable performance in
Twilight, it is hard to imagine Ashley as anything but Alice Cullen. Lucky for her and even luckier for us, the producers cast her in the role.

What about co-star and Cullen sib, Rob? How is he handling the hordes of screaming fans wherever he goes?
"It's sad for Rob!," Ashley said. "But he got slapped with 25,000 screaming girls so I definitely think he's taking it in stride."

ROBERT PATTINSON ON THE PHONE FROM VANCOUVER

Our friends at TwilightPoison.com sent us this great Rob quote from Los 40 Principales Magazine In Spain.

We called Robert Pattinson on the set of ‘New Moon’ in Vancouver, Canada. He told us over the phone that he’s living some months of peace and calm after the months of hysteria surrounding the release of ‘Twilight’.

It was so insane, that he even noticed some change in the people around him: “I’ve noticed that the way people look at me has changed a bit, even my family. It’s a bit weird. But I think things will go back to normal soon."

What many people don’t know is that he was in Barcelona filming ‘Little Ashes’ before ‘Twilight’ came out, almost completely unnoticed. “I wasn’t completely unnoticed. It’s funny because a lot of people came up to me because they recognized me from the Harry Potter movies."

The actor spent two months filming in Barcelona, Sant Pere de Ribes, Caldes de Montbui, Granada and CadaquƩs. Like he could that now. Complete insanity.

JONAS BROTHERS LOVE GETTING MANICURES!

Kevin, Joe and Nick admitted that they they love getting manicures, especially after they have long tour and tiring performances.

The  guys say  they need manicures  because their nails get seriously  "messed up"  from playing  the guitar.  That makes sense. But don't worry girls, they don't get nail polish! Well, perhaps a really thin clear coat?  Nick also mentioned that pedicures could be a possibility.

The Jonas Brothers are currently busy making their latest film,  Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam in Canada with fellow Disney Channel mate, Demi Lovato.

ROBERT PATTINSON: INCREASED SECURITY ON ECLIPSE SET

Twilight producers are taking precautions to ensure the vampire saga's teen heart-throb star, Robert Pattinson, is safe during filming of Eclipse — the third in the series — in Vancouver.

The powers that be put R. Pattz in a house instead of a hotel during filming of the movie, based on the books by Stephenie Meyer, due to security concerns, according to co-star Justin Chon.

"Security has been increased a lot," Chon, who plays Bella Swan's friend Eric Yorkie, said in an interview with E! Online.

"They're a lot more protective ... If Rob was to go out in public without anybody, I think it could be pretty dangerous."

ROB PATTZ AND THE FAME GAME

“I can’t remember what my normal life is like,”  Robert Pattinson, told  Life and Style magazine. “Walking down the street comes with screaming [fans]. It’s strange. You have to change.” Fame has certainly been overwhelming for Rob, who wishes he could just disappear. He hasn't led a normal life (minus millions of screaming fans)  since last November.
“Even at the most remote places I can imagine, someone will ask me for a picture with them or an autograph. I haven’t found one place in the world yet where I could disappear,” he adds.
As we all know, Rob, Kristen, Taylor and company are  are currently filming the third Twilight installment, Eclipse, in Vancouver. The sequel, New Moon, is due in theaters November 20.

IS TAYLOR SWIFT CRUSHING ON TAYLOR LAUTNER?

Country music sweetheart Taylor Swift may not know it, but we think she is crushin' on our favorite wolf boy, Taylor Lautner. Well, that's not a hard thing to do. In a recent radio interview, Taylor revealed she preferred  Lautner over Twilight/New Moon star Robert Pattinson.

"Aw, Tay-Tay. Well, see, I don't know Rob Pattinson, so I guess by default, I'd be on Team Tay. I love him. He's so cute!"
Isn't that sweet? The two were snapped lip-locking last month on the set of the Garry Marshall directed film, Valentine's Day. The star-studded cast for this much talked about flick includes Anne Hathaway, Julia Roberts, Ashton Kutcher and Emma Roberts to name a few. Valentine's Day opens in theaters February 2010.

Do you think the two Taylors make a cute couple or what. Share your thoughts.

BRIT PACK ALERT!: BOBBY LONG INTERVIEW PART 2

Part 2 (See August 8th:
BRIT PACK ALERT!: BOBBY
LONG INTERVIEW
FOR PART 1)

We have a new BOBBY LONG Q&A from friend and entertainment journo Anne M. Raso! She has filed this fab interview with THE MAN FROM MANCHESTER!

Be on the lookout for Bobby Long—he’s hot and super talented. He’s R-Pattz’s best friend…and you might know that Rob and gal-pal/New Moon costar Kirsten Stewart were recently spotted at Bobby’s LA club show! Bobby is being called the British Bob Dylan for the New Millennium—he is a great songwriter, lyricist, guitarist and all around great guy!

If you want some "take home" music from Bobby you can purchase his 10-song indie recording Dirty Pond Songs on his myspace page, www.myspace.com/Bobbylong. His current single is "Being A Mockingbird" which was released via digital outlets in June.)
His lyrics are about his real life as a 22-year-old singer-songwriter trying to make it and he strums a mean guitar. It seems like someone everyone in his concert crowds knows the words to his songs even though "Let Me Sign" from the Twilight soundtrack was his only real "mainstream" exposure. We got Bobby to talk a little about Rob, his music and more and we are expecting big things from him! He’s definitely the “Brit Packer” to blow up in 2010! Cheers, mate! We wish you the best!

Q: Twilight has been a bump to your career but in the end is it a blessing or a curse?
Bobby: A blessing because I was just a kid in London playing my songs… playing the same songs now and people really love the songs its an amazing feeling…. it just shows that you just need a little bump up…. as a musician I feel competent in my music- it’s what I want to do…. its given me the opportunity to show people and to do what I truly love doing… I don’t think I’m really in a situation where I’m refereed to as “Bobby Long from Twilight” I just wrote a song…. I’m working it to be a long term deal for me to do what I love doing…. its a complete blessing…being asked a few questions about the movie- I can handle it…
.
Q: Are you writing anything for the New Moon Soundtrack?

Bobby: Don’t know yet no one has asked us- but then we didn’t know until two weeks before the Twilight film that let me sign was on the soundtrack- Let me Sign wasn’t written for the film it was written cause he and Marcus are friends and Rob liked the song and took it to LA when he was shooting the movie. We didn’t meet Rob cause of Twilight- we’ve known each other about three-and-a-half years- and had our arms around each other saying one day we will work together- and when the opportunity comes we jump on it.

Q: How did you start playing music professionally in the first place?

Bobby: I’ve always loved music, but it didn’t start to hit me how much I loved it until I was about 16 and was given a guitar and started writing songs.

Q: Before we started this interview, you told me your dream was to play America and now you are doing it. So, I guess you are psyched no only to see the States but by the fact that the more people who come and see you the more likely they are to “get” your music…

Bobby: Yeah definitely. I just feel like I need to act now in a way. I’d love to record in America and, and live there actually. I really like the idea of doing some thing really fresh and new and doing an album out there one day. So I am throwing in several free shows on my Dangerous Summer tour. So if people wanna come along it’d be amazing—(it would) be great for the support but we’re just starting off small and seeing where we can take it. We hope to talk to some industry people to get a U.S. record (deal).

Q: Do you prefer small venues or large venues?

Bobby: I just want to play EVERYTHING! I just want to play big venues and small venues and yeah. I love playing.
Q: How old were you when you wrote your first song?
Bobby: Um, 17? 18? 18.
Q: Do you still play it?
Bobby: No! No, it’s absolutely crap. Terrible. Shockingly bad.
Q: Have you ever wanted to do anything other than music?
Bobby: No. Well, I wanted to do acting at first but that is just because I kind of liked the idea of not working a 9-5 job but… otherwise, I don’t know, I liked the idea of being a carpenter but then I was shit with wood.
Q: Do you play everything you write?
Bobby: Well, I write a song a week. I write all the time and I just discard them. Like only, I probably write, on average, like three songs a month and then one will make it through. The other two I’ll just never play them or…I start to hate them.
Q: If you were on a desert island what kind of music would you listen to?

Bobby: Um, what would it be? (Pause.) I’ll tell you WHO I’d listen to.
Q: Yeah?
Bobby: I’d listen to old Louis Armstrong with Jack Teagarden. I listen to that kind of jazz all the time; I never ever turn it off. Yeah, that’s what I’d listen to. Because I love every other kind of music, but that kind of stuff… It’s the first kind of music I ever heard so I feel very comfortable with it.
Q: What do you do in your spare time?

Bobby: Um, I read and write. I write a lot and watch films. And go out. I like drinking with my friends and socializing.
Q: What’s your favorite movie genre?

Bobby: Genre? I love gangster films…Goodfellas and The Godfather are probably my favorite, to be honest.
Q: What would be your perfect date?

Bobby: Perfect date? I don’t really go on them; I’ve never even been on one…
Q: You’ve never been on a date?
Bobby: I have. No, my perfect date would be to go watch the bullfighting. Bullfighting and then a nice little meal—a vegetarian meal just to even it up a little bit. I’ve got one! Ask me again. Ask me, ask me again!
Q: What was it? Your perfect date…

Bobby: My perfect date would be fishing…
and it would…
(Phil Taylor, Bobby’s manager, in the background adds, “With a harpoon…”)
Bobby: …with a harpoon! (Laughs.) No, fishing, in a boat obviously and then, uh, what else could I do? A little bit of a driving to somewhere nice and yeah, that’d be it. And I’d just get it for a meal, and eat the fish on the beach, stay in a tent and listen to music, a bit of jazz.
Q: Do you have any guilty pleasure shows that you watch?
Bobby: The X-Factor. I kind of watch that until it gets to the contest thing and then I watch something else! Oh, like, I would buy that on DVD. I don’t like things getting killed but I’m kind of weirdly fascinated by it so that’s probably my favorite.
Q: Does the idea of fame bother you? Have you seen it affect people? Are you ready for it?
Bobby: I don’t really know anybody, like the only one I know is Rob and he’s really cool, completely unaffected by anything so… Um, but am I ready?
Q: Are you ready for the insanity?
Bobby: The insanity? Not really. I don’t know. I just… I am not really… I’d like to say I’m not interested in it because I don’t want it, I just want to do music but if it comes alongside me doing music then I can deal with it. It’s just when it’s out of context. If it’s at a gig then I can understand people are enthusiastic and it’s lovely. When people listen to your songs it’s the most amazing thing in the world but I don’t think I could deal with it to the extreme levels of all the time. I don’t want that really.
Q: What was your first job?

Bobby: My first job? Burger King but I got sacked for nicking kid’s toys.
Q: What was your worst job?
Bobby: My worst? Did you say my best job or first job?
Q: No, first!
Bobby: Ok, I was gonna say my best job was Burger King! No. My worst job working a call center and I got a stutter and it was horrible and I’d be like “wawa” and it wasn’t very nice.
Q: What do you eat for comfort food?
Bobby: Comfort food? What do I eat all the time? Boiled eggs!
Q: Boiled eggs?
Bobby: Yeah. I had one today; it was kind of comforting.
Q: What was your favorite cartoon as a kid?
Bobby: He-Man.
Q: Did you like She-Ra as well?
Bobby: (Nods.)
Q: She was his sister.

Bobby: Yeah, I did actually. I don’t know, was she his sister? That was why they never (got together). But yeah, she was great--she was really pretty.

Q: What is the least favorite question you’ve been asked so far?

Bobby: Hmm, I don’t know it’s just nice being here so I’m not going to criticize any questions- Sometimes when they constantly ask questions about something else that has nothing to do with me. That can be extremely frustrating but nothing too bad--you have to have a sense of humor about these things you can’t take yourself too seriously.
